Gran Canaria Swim Week 2024 held its inaugural day of shows today at Pasito Blanco Marina in Maspalomas, featuring brands such as Ágatha Ruiz de la Prada—always a loyal attendee of the Canarian runway—and national and international designers including the British Alexandra Miró, the Spanish Victoria Cimadevilla and Vän, and the local brand Palmas, all presenting their Spring/Summer 2025 collections.

This open-air debut—after 16 years—was attended by the president of the Cabildo, Antonio Morales, who commented that the intention is to bring the shows back outdoors "to showcase the climate, landscapes, and extraordinary settings of the island to the world." Morales also highlighted the increasingly international profile of the runway, its "ever more sustainable character in response to the sector's concerns," and its growing ability to generate employment. "The evolution in this regard has been very significant in recent years, and the diversification of the economy seriously includes this proposal, which also gives space to local creators, whose presence alongside national and international designers is very important," the president concluded.

The leading European runway in its category and an international reference in swimwear fashion will continue for three more days, until October 5th, at the ExpoMeloneras venue in Maspalomas.

Regarding this opening day, it's also worth noting that from the front row, opinion leaders such as TV host and fashion expert Josie; content creator Chincha Rabiña; and Canarian influencers Yaiza Mencía, Marta Ibrahim, and Amalia Fajardo have been amplifying the visibility of the shows by sharing their GCSW experience with their digital communities under the hashtags #GranCanariaSwimWeek2024 and #GranCanariaSwimWeekbyMC. Additionally, a group of national and international press, both fashion and generalist, traveled to Gran Canaria to attend GCSW.

Opening Day Shows

Victoria Cimadevilla presented "Desert Flower," a collection that celebrates female strength and resilience, inspired by the flowers that bloom in the desert after the storm. With a palette of earthy tones, olive, and black, the collection combines swimsuits adorned with 3D flowers and hand-crocheted dresses, evoking the connection between humanity and nature. Ruffles and drapes add movement and texture, while each piece symbolizes the ability to adapt, endure, and shine, inviting women to embrace their inner strength and bloom in any circumstance.

Vän, founded in 2023 in Barcelona, is a swimwear brand that stands out for its focus on comfort and sun protection. Its name comes from the Swedish word for "friend," representing the friendship between its creators. With the motto "Aqua Couture," the brand aims to add a touch of fashion to sports swimwear, featuring long-sleeved swimsuits made with sustainable Italian fabrics and SPF50+ sun protection. Vän offers a vibrant and bold collection of swimsuits, bikinis, and long-sleeved garments, with details like neon linings, providing women with confidence and comfort for a day at the beach or water activities.

Alexandra Miró's collection is a showcase of luxury and modern femininity, combining elegance and sophistication. Known for her minimalist and bold designs, Alexandra Miró uses high-quality fabrics to create swimwear, beachwear, and resort pieces that stand out for their clean lines and impactful aesthetic. Her new collection, "Seville," inspired by Andalusia, features a vibrant rose print that evokes romance and timeless elegance. Dramatic tulle pieces, with an ethereal and flamenco touch, along with luxurious jacquard fabrics, bring a sophisticated and modern air to the collection, ideal for effortlessly transitioning from a day at the beach to an evening out.

Ágatha Ruiz de la Prada's new collection for next summer is an explosion of color and creativity that reflects the designer's unmistakable style. True to her essence, Ágatha introduces polka-dot patterned floaties and balls that turn into skirts, as well as her iconic umbrella dresses decorated with raindrops and clouds. The collection also includes bermuda shorts and shirts in the brand's vibrant colors: red, turquoise, yellow, and green. With the use of plasticized fabrics and transparencies, the pieces convey a sense of lightness, offering an elegant and fun summer. With more than 40 years of experience, Ágatha continues to fuse fashion and art, making each of her creations an artistic expression and a distinctive hallmark both on the runway and in everyday life.

Palmas' "Línea" collection follows the path set by the acclaimed Palmas Bridal 2025 collection, "Essence." Inspired by the pop art of the 1970s and geometric minimalism, it incorporates a touch of futurism. The exclusive prints, featuring geometric and abstract shapes, are applied to fabrics like lycra and chiffon, bringing to life swimsuits, bikinis, and outerwear in a wide variety of styles and cuts for both men and women. The designs are complemented with golden appliques and accessories that elevate each look, adding a touch of elegance and sophistication.
