Statements

During the ceremony, the president of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, Antonio Morales, said that "in recent years the Gran Canaria Swim Week by Moda Cálida brand has been consolidated. Some of the most important steps that have been taken in the Gran Canaria Moda Cálida programme have been: boosting local promotional events to promote new companies; the Gran Canaria Moda Cálida school has been consolidated as a focal point for coordination with formal training centres to support students; the different lines of subsidies to support attendance at foreign trade fairs or textile innovation; the advice of the association of Spanish designers (ACME) and the presence of Gran Canaria in the Madrid es Moda project. We have also managed to disseminate the sustainable values of the Gran Canaria fashion week, as the creators of Gran Canaria offer high quality swimwear pieces designed and made on the island, all of them complying with the requirement to include sustainable practices".

"IFEMA MADRID's experience in catwalk management has meant a qualitative leap to expand the presence and dissemination of the catwalk. In the last edition this presence reached 60 million readers, 2.6 M users on RRSS, 2.5 impressions on RRSS, and a return of 2.7% on media investment. In addition, the number of companies in the textile and clothing industry in the province of Las Palmas in 2022 increased by 5.26% compared to the previous year and by 60% compared to the period 2015-2023. All this has meant that direct employment for these activities in Gran Canaria in the second quarter of 2023 was up 8.19% on the previous year and 53.5% for the period 2015-2023. The island of Gran Canaria leads in employment in the province of Las Palmas with 87.4% of employment registered in this sector. Self-employment in Gran Canaria accounts for 50.7% of total employment in the textile and clothing industry in the second quarter of 2023. On the other hand, there will be an increase in turnover of 41% with respect to 2022, 13.43% more physical points of sale and 11.76% more online points of sale". Antonio Morales, president of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, concluded.

For her part, the Councillor for Economic Development, Industry, Trade and Crafts of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, Minerva Alonso, stressed that "in recent years GCSW by MC has been an example of internationalisation and professionalisation. We have worked to create a link with the sector and thus respond to the needs it has been expressing over the last few years. These objectives have been achieved thanks to different actions, such as collaborating with ACME, as well as working together with IFEMA MADRID, all of which has allowed us to create synergies with other markets and platforms, placing our island on the international map. We have also collaborated with the Chamber of Commerce of Gran Canaria, which has allowed us to consolidate relations with the Italian fair Maredamare. In August we presented Gran Canaria Swim Week at the Copenhagen Fashion Week, and we are working with the Fashion Council of Berlin, and with the Fashion Council of the United Kingdom, with the aim of promoting our island and our Gran Canaria Swim Week".

Ana Rodríguez, director of the GCSW by Moda Cálida wanted to point out that "it is a real honour to be able to continue working in such an outstanding trajectory as the one that Gran Canaria Swim Week by Moda Cálida is developing. In just a few years the quality and professionalism of the project is more than remarkable".
