2023-08-07

A selection of Gran Canarian designers and an international firm unveiled their designs for next summer in an atmosphere that reflected the vibrant spirit of Gran Canaria Swim Week by Moda Cálida in Copenhagen.

Copenhagen, 7 August 2023 - The presentation of Gran Canaria Swim Week by Moda Cálida took place today in the framework of Copenhagen Fashion Week. With this alliance between the Canarian and Danish catwalks, Gran Canaria Swim Week consolidates its commitment to the internationalization of this unique event in Europe in its category. A global benchmark for swimwear fashion that is expanding its international presence year after year. Cross-border cooperation at all levels, joint projects and opening up to foreign markets are essential aspects in today's fashion world, and it is in this context that the alliance with Copenhagen Fashion Week arises, as an important step forward in the international positioning of Gran Canaria Swim Week by Moda Cálida. This international expansion, the result of the strategy of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, has the support of the Chamber of Commerce of Gran Canaria.

The presentation took place in a luxurious setting, the rooftop of the iconic Villa Copenhagen hotel, with the participation of five leading Gran Canarian designers and firms and one international designer. The selection of national designers and firms was made up of Elena Morales, Palmas, Aurelia Gil, Chela Clo and Carlos San Juan. They have been joined by the Israeli Gottex. Through an innovative format that has managed to recreate the spirit of Gran Canaria Swim Week by Moda Cálida and redefine the limits of the classic fashion show, a group of models and dancers have worn the swimwear proposals for the upcoming Spring-Summer 2024 season.

Aurelia Gil presented a design from the "365" collection, a tribute to her twenty-year career through a revision of her most iconic models. Shapes, colours and materials in their most current and powerful version. The creator has pointed out that "as a designer from the Canary Islands, it is a privilege that my designs are shown, hand in hand with GCMC, the city that is establishing itself as the new epicentre of new fashion in Europe".

Jorge Toledo, the designer behind Chela Clo, said about his participation in the presentation: "We are very happy to participate in the Copenhagen Fashion Week with Gran Canaria Swim Week by Moda Cálida with some of our best selling designs from SS23. It is an honour to showcase our brand on one of the most fashionable catwalks on an international level".

Carlos San Juan has highlighted the "great opportunity that his participation in the Copenhagen Fashion Week represents to bring his brand closer to the Northern European market". In her new collection, she opts for a selection of resort garments inspired by the idea of summer as an eternal season.

As a designer, I have been inspired by the Nordic aesthetic, sophisticated and full of fluid lines. It is a great honour for me and for Gottex to be part of the Copenhagen Fashion Week together with leading international swimwear brands by the hand of Gran Canaria Swim Week, a catwalk show that Gottex has been closely linked to for a long time". Says Keren Gasner, designer of the Israeli firm Gottex. On this occasion, Gottex has opted for a proposal that combines its core values in terms of quality and design. It is a feminine collection with pure lines aimed at a contemporary woman.

The designer Elena Morales has expressed her excitement at participating, hand in hand with Gran Canaria Swim Week by Moda Cálida in Copenhagen Fashion Week, "one of the most sustainable catwalks in the world". And the fact is that sustainability is a central element in the imaginary of the creator.

The designer Pedro Palmas, of the firm Palmas, presents his refreshing collection "Acqua", inspired by this natural element so necessary for life. For him, presenting his collection in Copenhagen means "participating in one of the most important fashion weeks in Europe and a great step forward in the internationalisation of his firm".

"Our presence in Copenhagen is an important step towards the internationalisation of Gran Canaria Swim Week, which we started a few years ago. Our commitment is to turn Gran Canaria Swim Week into a benchmark for swimwear fashion at a European level by betting on the richness of an incomparable enclave in Europe. To do so in collaboration with such an important European event as the Copenhagen Fashion Week is a success that fills us with pride". Minerva Alonso, Councillor for Economic Development, Industry, Trade and Crafts of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, said.

Cecilie Thorsmark, CEO of Copenhagen Fashion Week, underlined the importance of the partnership between the two catwalks: "The partnership between Copenhagen Fashion Week and Gran Canaria Swim Week is proof of the power of collaboration in the fashion industry. While Copenhagen Fashion Week showcases the cutting-edge designs and innovative ideas of the ready-to-wear industry, Gran Canaria Swim Week celebrates the art and creativity of the swimwear industry. Together, these two platforms not only amplify the impact of both events, but also highlight the diversity and inclusivity that define the modern fashion landscape."
