Gran Canaria Swim Week by Moda Cálida presents the brands and collections that will be on show in this new 2022 edition.

  • The President of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, Antonio Morales, the Councillor for Industry, Trade and Crafts of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, Minerva Alonso, and the Director of Trade Fair Business of IFEMA MADRID, Ana Larrañaga, have unveiled the keys to the new edition.
  • This year the Canarian catwalk has 32 designers and brands, of which 15 are from the Canary Islands - Gran Canaria and other islands of the archipelago -; 8 from the Iberian Peninsula, and 9 international.
  • The Canadian top model Coco Rocha, special guest of Gran Canaria Swim Weeek by Moda Cálida 2022.


The Cabildo de Gran Canaria and IFEMA MADRID today presented the new features of the next edition of Gran Canaria Swim Week by Moda Cálida 2022, which will take place from 20 to 23 October at the Expomeloneras exhibition centre in Maspalomas.


The President of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, Antonio Morales; the Councillor for Industry, Trade and Crafts of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, Minerva Alonso, and the Director of Trade Fair Business of IFEMA, Ana Larrañaga, were in charge of unveiling the details of the new edition of the event, an international benchmark for swimwear fashion and the only one of its kind in Europe.


This 2022 edition is made up of 32 designers and brands, of which 15 are from the Canary Islands, 8 national and 9 international. Prestigious figures such as Ágatha Ruiz de la Prada, Dolores Cortés or Aurelia Gil, contribute their savoir faire to this edition, which also features the incorporation of firms with a high level of design and prestige, committed to sustainability and focused on a young audience interested in fashion, such as Como un pez en el agua or Bohodot.


The first day, Thursday 20 October, is divided into nine fashion shows: Dolores Cortés, Bohodot, Maldito Sweet, the Colombian Mola Mola, Victoria Cimadevilla, the British Alexandra Miró, Nuria González, the Israeli firm Gottex and lastly, Melissa Odabash, a firm from the United Kingdom that is back for the second year running. On the second day, Friday 21 October, Diazar, Edelvissa, All That She Loves, Alawa, the Danish Copenhagen Cartel, Sanjuan, the German Anekdot, Gonzales, and Ágatha Ruiz de la Prada will close the day's fashion shows. Finally, Rubén Rodríguez, Muchiachio, Libérrimo, and Vevas will participate in the last day, followed by Como la Trucha al Trucho, Como un pez en el agua, Palmas Swimwear, Elena Morales, Bloomers, the Swedish firm Kamilla Belmont, Chela Clo, Aurelia Gil, Miss Bikini, and the designer Arcadio Domínguez will close the 2022 calendar.

Considered one of the most important top models of recent years according to Vogue, this Canadian has been the muse of great designers such as Karl Lagerfeld and Jean Paul Gaultier and the image of brands such as Versace, Chanel and D&G. It is a profile with great international reach and influence in the fashion industry, which counts among its audience followers from all over the world.


Antonio Morales has declared that ''this year we wanted to bring fashion closer to the public. To be a pillar in the fashion sector and to support designers in order to promote them. We have wanted to give prominence to Canarian talent and international powers and new firms have also been incorporated into the programme to consolidate internationalisation. There will be a strong presence of general and specialised media as well as international media. We also want to promote the catwalk in digital environments''.


Minerva Alonso, for her part, stated that ''the island of Gran Canaria is going to be more fashionable than ever. We are once again putting the focus on social networks and specialised media. We will have influencers such as the Canadian Coco Rocha with around 2M followers, Teresa Andrés, Marta Lozano, Carla Barber and the Canarian influencers Yaiza Mencía, Priscila Betancort, Marta Ibrahim and Gema Betancor. This edition has given a boost to B2B with buyers from Portugal, Greece, France, Italy, Germany and Austria''.

To conclude, Ana Larrañaga commented that ''the strategic focus has been to internationalise the catwalk and promote its designers. This edition has doubled the number of international firms from the previous year with the presence of 9 brands''.


More keys to the 2022 edition of GCSW by MC


GCSW by MC will once again highlight talent through its awards for Best Collection, Best Emerging Collection and Best Sustainable Collection.


On the iconic catwalk of Expomeloneras will parade a diverse casting of models, composed of professionals from Gran Canaria, the rest of the Peninsula, and international. Not only more traditional models, but also curvy models and models over 50 years old. This casting is made up of 34 models in total: 25 girls (7 of them are Canarian models), and 9 boys (all of whom are from Las Palmas de Gran Canaria). The cast of national and international models is headed by names such as Lorena Durán, Desiré Corderó, Nora Vara as well as male models of reference such as Angelo Gómez, Jorge Rodes, Jabel Balbuena or Simone Bricchi...


RTVE returns as official media and will broadcast live from Expomeloneras with presenter Roberto Herrera hosting the broadcasts. Hola TV, leader in fashion in Latin America, repeats as international television with presenter Lucía Riaño hosting the broadcasts.

 

The event also has extensive media coverage, through a high quality guest press programme, made up of national men's and women's fashion headers, general and weekly media, and swimwear fashion technical media.
