The council manages to closet he participation of Gran Canaria designers in Copenhagen Fashion Week next August.

2023-02-01

  • The Department of Industry and the Chamber of Commerce have held a promotional event in the Danish capital as a first step towards the designers’ arrival in the summer.
  • For the selection of participants, a announcement will be organised with the criteria of Moda Cálida and the Danish Fashion Council, organiser of the main Nordic runway show.
  • In addition, the Regional Minister of Industry visited the Revolver fair to evaluate the facilities of her own stand at the next event.

Gran Canarian designers will have the opportunity to present their collections at the next Copenhagen Fashion week, the main nordic Catwalk, thanks to the agreement reached these days by the Councillor for Industry and Trade, Minerva Alonso, with the representatives of the body that organices this event, the fashion Council of Denmark, and as she explained, the selection will be made through a call that will include the criteria of Moda Cálida “among which internationalisation (having a website or working in the Chamber of Commerce) will be decisive, but also those of the Danish organisation, which include the sustainability that characterises this event”, explained the Councillor from Copenhagen.

The Department of Industry and the Chamber of Commerce of Gran Canaria are promoting the Gran Canaria Swimwear Fashion Week in Copenhagen, with a virtual campaign aimed at achieving this participation in August, which, after the meeting with the executive director of the Danish Fashion Week, Cecilie Thorsmark, has been confirmed.

The presentation took place yesterday at the new Carlsberg Glyptotheque, one of the main museums in the Danish Capital, where the councillor presented Gran Canaria Swim Week by Moda Cálida as the only swimwear fashion week in Europe, “so it is essential that synergies are created between Canarian and European companies and to visit other fashion fairs to sell our products”, she said.

Stand at the Revolver trade fair

In fact, today, the representatives of the Regional Ministry and the Chamber of Commerce have also visited the Revolver Fair, which coexists with the Copenhagen Fashion Week, to assess the possibility of having a stand at the next edition with a simple of the designers who will be parading, as well as making contacts with Copenhagen Cartel, a Danish fashion firm that paraded in October, and with a Greek firm that could participate in the next edition.

The regional Ministry of Industry initiated an internationalisation plan five years ago that included, firstly, an agreement with Ifema to organise the catwalk, as well as work with the Chamber of Commerce, which has resulted in actions such as attendance at the Italian fair Mare da Mare, or the Berlin Fashion week, with which the first European Fashion Alliance has been promoted.
“Gran Canaria is a tourist destination for sun and sand, although we also have magnificent peaks and, for us, it is extremely important to take advantage of this promotion of our swimwear fashion week to promote our destination.

I believe, as our experts have informed us, that this i sour market. And we are going to continue working in northern Europe”, the counselor said yesterday.

The collaboration with Copenhagen stems from mutual recognition between two “important” platforms and the “need” to position themselves as “global players”, explained Thorsmark on her part.
